CATSA will become a not-for-profit corporation

Well hidden in the last federal budget, there is an important announcement about the future of CATSA’s Canadian Air Transport Security Agency.

The announcement can be found in Appendix II in the Table 2.9 on page 300.

The Canadian government is planning to do the same thing with CATSA as it did with Canadian airports by entrusting their management to a not for profit corporation. As a first step, it will double funding in 2019-20 to modernize CATSA’s equipment and infrastructure, and then transfer its management to a not for profit corporation in the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

Since the devil is in the details, we will have to wait until the bill is written to know what are the impacts of these upcoming changes.
