Qantas has just published a press release confirming its choice. The agreement with Airbus covers 40 aircraft, split equally between 20 A321XLRs and 20 A220-300s. The airline intends to turn its intention into a firm order in mid-2022. The deal also includes purchase rights for 94 more planes. Qantas will be able to choose any version of the A320neo family as well as A220-100s. The airline has also chosen to equip its A321XLRs with the PW1100G-JM engine. The delivery of the 134 aircraft may be spread over a period of 10 years.

The order is a big win for Airbus as it grab a long-time Boeing customer. Qantas was looking for planes of different sizes and only Airbus met all the needs. As for Embraer, the result is hardly surprising; his chances of winning the order for 20 E2s against Airbus were rather slim. Click here to subscribe to our free YouTube channel
